The Art of Journaling

As a young girl, I can remember the first time that I fell in love with writing. I was in the third grade writing an essay during class. It was as if a light within my soul lit up and my heart skipped a few beats.

A feeling that I often reminisce on when I think of about the passion that I have for writing poems, stories, essays and thoughts that I share openly with the world and the ones that are nestled into the inner linings of my journal and notebooks.

Writing down the ideas, moments and experiences that are healing, inspiring and strengthening to the mind, heart and spirit.

The journey of journaling as a woman has been a such an instrumental act of self-care, reflection, growth and evolution. Falling in love with the way your penmanship and signature flows on the crisp pages of a journal is truly soothing and therapeutic to the mind and soul.

I began journaling some years ago—most likely before it was known widely on social media as “the it girl” thing. And to be honest, I couldn’t be more happier.

I couldn’t be happier that I didn’t let the worry of anyone finding my journal or the memory of past experiences or the recognition of new and starting over in life stop me from writing and now discovering what was, who I am and who I am becoming through my poetic journal entries.

Sharing your thoughts, ideas and affirmations free of judgement and popularity of the world will always be a beautiful notion to me.

And I want you to know that journaling can be a world full of the unknown, of the uncertainty, of the discovery, of the exploration, of the becoming.

Just as long as you start—I promise you’ll be like me years later being grateful for the moment you finally took the chance to physically articulate what was in your mind and heart to the empty pages of the linen or leather journal that you’ve been waiting to fill up on your own.

You will thank yourself for starting and along the way, documenting your journey of evolving and becoming. Just as I am now.

Signed,

A woman who will always be grateful for sharing what was on her mind, heart and soul.
